Can’t get tickets to Hamilton, then see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights right here in Northport. In the Heights is a high-energy, vibrant piece of musical theater that has wowed Engeman audiences since opening night on March 15. If you still haven’t seen it, the run has been extended through May 6, 2018; hurry to grab some tickets on the few days and nights that remain. The story takes place in a Washington Heights neighborhood, where the rhythms of three generations of music can be heard. The hopes and dreams of the characters will reignite you after the long dreary winter we are just now beginning to escape from. You will want to dance in your seat and you will get swept away by the amazing music of Miranda’s first musical and the passion that Engeman actors put into their roles.

In the Heights is produced by Richard Dolce, producing artistic director, and directed by Paul Stancato who also directed Grease, Jekyll & Heyde, Sound of Music, and Hairspray at Engeman. Stancato’s Broadway credits include The Wedding Singer as Asst. Choreographer and Res. director for The Lion King; National Tours: Flashdance, Jekyll & Hyde, The Wedding Singer. Dana Iannuzzi is associate director of In The Heights with Engeman Theater credits: Grease, Jekyll & Hyde; National/International Tour: Flashdance; NYC: ICON, The Cobalteans, Divided.

Kudos to the choreographer of this production whose complicated dance numbers somehow look very uncomplicated: Choreographer Sandalio Alvarez (Broadway/National Tour: The Lion King, In the Heights) brings this masterpiece to life along with the talented cast on the Engeman stage. The musical director is Alec Bart (Engeman: Grease, Gypsy; Broadway: Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 (Sub); Las Vegas: Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, ShowStoppers, Duck Commander Musical, Mannheim Steamroller, Camp Broadway; Tours: 42nd Street, Cabaret).

The cast of IN THE HEIGHTS features SPIRO MARCOS as Usnavi (New York: Junk (a Rock Opera). Regional: Spring Awakening, Tick, tick…BOOM!, Last Five Years at ReVision Theater, Altar Boyz at Gateway Playhouse). Marcos’ Usnavi is magnificent because he appears so effortless; he is Usnavi. JOSH MARIN is amazing as Benny (Theater: Spring Awakening, The Wild Party, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety, The Color Purple, Violet; Film: Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln”). CHERRY TORRES  wows audiences as Nina (Regional: Rock of Ages – Drury Lane Theater, Trav’lin: A 1930s Harlem Musical at Seven Angels Theater, Smokey Joe’s Café at the Palace Theater and Disney’s Believe on Disney Cruise Line), and the seductive Vanessa role is played by CHIARA TRENTALANGE  (Regional: In the Heights at Geva Theatre, The Marvelous Wonderettes at Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Anything Goes at Goodspeed Opera House, A Chorus Line at Interlakes Theatre and Grease at Forestburgh Playhouse).

The cast also features: PAUL AGUIRRE (Kevin), TAMI DAHBURA (Abuela Claudia), SHADIA FAIRUZ (Camila), ILIANA GARCIA (Carla), DANNY LOPEZ (Graffiti Pete), NICK MARTINEZ (Sonny), VINCENT ORTEGA (Piragua Guy) and SCHEHERAZADE QUIROGA (Daniela), and includes: JORDAN CHIN, KARMA JENKINS, DARIUS JORDAN LEE, DELANEY LOVE, KRYSTAL MACKIE, BRYAN ERNESTO MENJIVAR, BELEN MOYANO, JOVANY RAMIREZ and MAGDALENA RODRIGUEZ.
