Huntington Manor FD Battles Apartments Blaze

Members of the Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to a structure fire on New York Avenue between West 10th and 11th Street in Huntington Station on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 6:51 a.m. Huntington Manor firefighters arrived to a working fire in residential apartments behind a commercial building, and began an aggressive attack on the blaze. Mutual aid was requested from the Huntington, Greenlawn, Melville, Dix Hills fire departments to the scene, with Commack and Halesite for standby coverage. EMS crews from the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators were also on the scene assisting. Approximately 15 residents were safely evacuated from the building by firefighters and police, and the Red Cross was requested to assist them.  About 50 firefighters responded with ten trucks, and had the fire under control within an hour, under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Jon Hoffmann, Chuck Brady and Jim Glidden. The fire caused extensive damage to the building and apartments. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
