Walt Whitman HS Teacher Charged with Rape of 16-Year-Old Student

Brian Dreher, age 41, a social studies teacher at Walt Whitman High School has been arrested.

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Walt Whitman High School teacher who had an inappropriate relationship with one of his students in Huntington Station.

Special Victims Section detectives began an investigation into the conduct of a Walt Whitman High School teacher and discovered that he was having an inappropriate relationship with one of his 16-year-old female students. Detectives arrested Brian Dreher, 41, of 141 East 17th St., Huntington Station, at his home at approximately 7:25 a.m.

Dreher, who teaches social studies at the school, located at 301 West Hills Road in Huntington Station, was charged with Rape 3rd Degree, Criminal Sexual Act 3rd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

A post in the group “South Huntington School District 13” on Facebook noted that Dr. David Bennardo, South Huntington Superintendent of Schools, said in a statement on the school’s website that Dreher, once released, will be placed on administrative leave and is restricted from campus while the investigation continues.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Special Victims at 631-852-6531.

Dreher will be held at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 26.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
