Five Injured in Melville Crash

 Emergency responders from the Melville Fire Department, Plainview Fire Department, Suffolk County Police Department and Nassau County Police Department responded to a borderline crash on Round Swamp Road and the North Service Road of the Long Island Expressway in Melville early Saturday morning, May 6, at about 12:40 a.m. Melville firefighters and rescue personnel arrived to find a minivan overturned on its side with an adult male and three teenage females trapped inside. Melville firefighters and Police Emergency Service officers used heavy rescue tools to cut into the vehicle which was stabilized with rescue struts and a cable winch from Melville’s heavy rescue truck. The occupants were removed through the front windshield and rear door window of the minivan. The four minivan occupants and the driver of a sports utility vehicle involved, were all transported with non-life threatening injuries to Winthrop University Hospital and Huntington Hospital by Melville Rescue Squad and Nassau County Police ambulances. About 40 firefighters, rescue personnel and police were on the scene, under the command of Melville Fire Chief Jason Bernfeld and Assistant Chiefs Chris Nolan and David Kaplan.
