Two Local Fire Departments Aid Crash Scenes

The Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to extricate an elderly man trapped following a crash on Jericho Turnpike near Brooks Avenue today at about 11:22 a.m. Manor firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” heavy rescue tools to remove a door from the SUV that struck a tree and knocked over a fire hydrant.  Firefighters quickly had the patient freed, who was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.  Two heavy rescue trucks and an engine were dispatched to the crash, and crews were under the command of Huntington Manor Fire Chief Frank McQuade.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a crash involving an overturned box truck carrying produce on Deer Park Avenue and DeForest Road South on Monday, February 29, at about 11:15 a.m. The driver was pinned in the truck and extricated by Dix Hills firefighters who used heavy rescue tools to cut out the truck’s windshield. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad. About 15 Dix Hills Fire/Rescue personnel were on the scene with a heavy rescue truck, pumper, ambulance and paramedic responder. Suffolk Police second precinct, emergency service, and State Police were also on the scene.
