An East Northport couple and their four-month old twins, a boy and girl, escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at their home on Cordell Place, Sunday morning, Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015, at about 10 a.m. The East Northport Fire Department responded and found the attached garage of the single family home engulfed in flames. Firefighters began an aggressive attack on the blaze with several hose lines. Propane gas tanks outside the garage ignited and fueled the fire, which then spread to the kitchen and living room where firefighters were able to stop the blaze. The remainder of the home sustained smoke damage. Over 50 firefighters using seven trucks from the East Northport, Commack and Kings Park fire departments battled the blaze, which was brought under control in 20 minutes, led by Chief Wayne Kaifler Jr., and First Assistant Chief Dan Heffernan. The East Northport Rescue Squad had three ambulances and paramedic unit on the scene for EMS support. The Northport Fire Department and a Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided standby coverage for East Northport during the alarm. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating.
