The Centerport Fire Department responded to a crash after a vehicle slammed into a house on Prospect Road and fled the scene Tuesday night, April 28, 2015, at about 8:40 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find the front right corner of the house destroyed with debris strewn all over, and a ruptured natural gas line and water pipe. The deck of an adjacent house was also damaged as well as trees, shrubbery and fences.  Centerport firefighters were able to shut off the gas and water lines, and ventilated the gas fumes from the home. About 25 Centerport firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with an engine, ladder truck, ambulance and fire patrol, under the direction of Chief Brian Mark and Assistant Chiefs Tom Boyd and Rich Miltner.  PSEG and National Grid utilities and the Huntington Town Fire Marshal were requested to respond. The residents were not home at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported. Witnesses reported that a white pickup truck crashed into the house and ended up in the backyard just a few feet from the Mill Pond, before turning around and fleeing the scene through neighboring property. Suffolk Police were on the scene investigating the crash.
