La Nuit des Musées/The Night of Museums at Huntington’s Heckscher Museum

Museum Lights LRLa Nuit des Musées…The Night of Museums is a free community event at The Heckscher Museum of Art on Saturday, May 17 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  Art lovers of all ages are invited to The Heckscher Museum for a celebration of this international Night of Museums, an evening where museums around the world are open late free of charge.

La Nuit des Musées will include musical performances, a movie screening of “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian”, poetry reading with award-winning poet Vivian Eyre, family-friendly art activities will fill the Museum’s galleries, along with a lively dance performance by students from Walt Whitman High School’s Advanced Modern Dance Program.

If you have you ever wondered if the paintings come alive after the Museum closes, visit The Heckscher Museum on May 17 during La Nuit des Musées…The Night of Museums.  Exhibitions on view are Rhythm & Repetition in 20th-Century Art and Exposed: Eadweard Muybridge and the Study of Motion.  Additional information is available at

Rhythm & Repetition in 20th-Century Art, May 3 – August 10, 2014: This Permanent Collection exhibition focuses on artists who use repeated shapes depicting natural, man-made, or abstract forms as a method to organize their compositions.

Exposed: Eadweard Muybridge and the Study of Motion, May 3 – August 3, 2014: Credited as the “father of the motion picture,” Eadweard Muybridge pioneered the study of motion in time-lapse photography that documented the dynamics of human and animal movement.

Museum Hours

Wednesday – Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

First Friday is free extended viewing hours from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Huntington Township Residents admitted free Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. and Saturday before 1:00 p.m. Proof of residency required.
