Team Up to Slow Down On the Road

Councilman Mark Mayoka

Councilman Mark Mayoka

Councilman Mark Mayoka wants you to Slow Down.  According to AAA, deadly traffic crashes peak for teens during the summer months of June, July and August.  Councilman Mayoka urges parents of teens to increase their focus on safety during the school-free months ahead. The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the deadliest for teens because they have more free time, less adult supervision, and more opportunities to drive at night.

Councilman Mayoka knows that parents play an important role in keeping their teens safe during the summer by setting rules that keep teens off the road at night, restrict riding in cars with multiple teen passengers, and require parental permission for car trips. These rules are important all year long, but are especially important during the summer months when teen driving deaths increase significantly.

Councilman Mayoka believes that saving young drivers and their passengers is a priority and that the Team Up to Slow Down program is a step in that direction.  Councilman Mark Mayoka said  “ The speed limit in residential areas must be observed for the safety of everyone.” Failure to follow the speed limit endangers bicyclists and pedestrians who also use the road for travel. Team Up to Slow Down will work to encourage people to slow down.
