Parades for Memorial Day

memorial dayThere are lots of  Memorial Day parades to attend this Monday, May 27, 2013, in memory of those who lost their lives when serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Here are a few in the town of Huntington:

Memorial Day Wreath Ceremony at Town Hall, Sunday at 9:30 a.m. 

Wreaths will be placed at the World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, and Women’s Veteran Monuments and to honor troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Special guests will be Town of Huntington father and son veterans, who served simultaneously in the Middle East: US Army Cpl. Michael J. Schmitt Sr. and US Marine Sgt. Michael J. Schmit, Jr. The East Northport District Middle School Choral group will perform.

Huntington, Monday at 11:30 a.m.
At the Big H Center on New York Avenue and proceeds north to Main Street. Parade sponsored by Nathan Hale VFW Post 1469.

Northport,  Monday at 10:00 a.m.
The parade will begin at the Laurel Avenue School (William Brosnan Building) and proceed down Main Street to Village Park where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony. The parade is organized by Northport American Legion Post 694.

East Northport, Monday at 12:15 p.m.
Begins at Clay Pitts and Larkfield Road at the IGA Market Center and will continue north on Larkfield Road to the John Walsh Memorial Park at East Northport Library where ceremonies will be performed. The parade is sponsored by the Fr. Judge Knights of Columbus.
