Twenty-three youngsters from Huntington School District 3’s Woodhull and Finley Schools, grades 5th through 8th, competed in Long Island’s Regional Bridge Tournament last Sunday, April 21st, at the Melville Marriott Hotel.  The youth tournament was in honor of Patrick Hannon, a schoolmate who died two years ago.

Teams winning first place are Matthew Baker, Adam Neber, Maggie Imperato and Shakayiah Boyle; second place are Kaitlyn Sage, Brendon Roller, Natalie Flores and Lauren Sage.   All the children are Huntington residents.

The students studied bridge at their School Bridge Clubs after School for the last 22 weeks in a program initiated 5 years ago.  Mary Stokkers, principle at Woodhull, and John Amato, principle at Finley, initiated the programs under the leadership of Long Island Bridge 4 Youth, lead by Carol Mathews and Jack Sage.

Dr. Reza Khatib, resident of Garden City and retired Surgeon, provides major financial support along with Long Island Bridge Studios.
