High Wind Warning in Effect from 6pm Tonight

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Long Island in effect beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday and overnight into 6 a.m. Thursday.

* LOCATIONS...NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA...LONG ISLAND AND
  COASTAL CONNECTICUT.

* HAZARDS...DAMAGING WIND GUSTS.

* WINDS...SOUTH 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH.

* TIMING...STRONG WINDS THIS EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT.

* IMPACTS...STRONG WINDS...IN COMBINATION WITH HEAVY RAIN...
  COULD BRING DOWN WHOLE TREES...LARGE TREE LIMBS...POWER LINES
  AND UNSECURED OUTDOOR OBJECTS. THIS COULD POSE A HAZARD TO
  ANYONE OUT DRIVING OR WALKING TONIGHT...AND TO HOUSES AND
  OTHER STRUCTURES NEAR LARGER TREES. DRIVING WILL ALSO BE
  DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES AND ON
  ELEVATED ROADWAYS AND BRIDGES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS
OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.
