Gas Rationing Begins Tomorrow, Friday, November 9, Across Long Island and in New York City

The answer to the gasoline shortage that has led to crazy, long lines and frustration that began after Hurricane Sandy? To address these issues, the counties are implementing gasoline rationing, which will begin at 5 a.m. tomorrow across Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

Here are the gas-rationing rules:

Drivers with license plates ending in an even number, including zero, will be able to purchase fuel only on even-numbered days on the calendar. Drivers with license plate numbers that end in an odd number will be able to purchase fuel only on odd-numbered days. License plates such as vanity plates that do not display numbers will be considered odd-numbered plates.

Commercial vehicles, Emergency vehicles, taxi or limousines do not have to follow these rules and it also doesn’t apply to people with hand held gas canisters.
