Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a single-car crash that killed the driver in Melville this morning.
A man was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima east on the Long Island Expressway when his vehicle left the roadway, east of Route 110, struck a light pole and proceeded into a wooded area on Express Drive South at approximately 2:15 a.m. The vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. The driver, who has not been positively identified, was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
