Huntington Arts Council Invites Student Submissions for Juried Student Exhibition “Nightmare on Main Street”

While fall puts a chill in the air, The Huntington Arts Council is looking to put a chill down your spine with a totally unique art gallery experience celebrating Halloween and Day of the Dead.  Join us at the Main Street Petite Gallery for some fun as we present our first black lit gallery and new “Nightmare on Main Street” student art exhibition. Who knows what future Tim Burton or José Guadalupe Posada exists among the students of Long Island? This exciting show of hauntingly thrilling artwork is juried by noted Long Island educator and artist Dan Christoffel.

All K-12 Students are eligible and invited to apply for this exciting juried show.  Prizes of  $50 each will be awarded in two age categories:  Senior Division (grades 9-12) and Junior Division (grades 8 and below).  Artwork must be available October 23-November 5, 2012. 

About the Juror:  Dan Christoffel is a national and international exhibiting artist who has studied at the Art Students’ League, the National Academy, Pratt Institute, SUNY New Paltz and LIU Post.  He is currently a board member of the Art League of Long Island, a member of the Bay Walk Nautical Arts Committee in Port Washington, a visiting artist at the Great Neck Arts Center and a guest lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is a past president of the Long Island Art Teachers Association and former curator for the Partnership for Cultural Development at the Chelsea Center in Muttontown. He works in myriad media, including painting, sculpture, drawing and print making.  As inspiration, he draws on the grand history of portraits from the Romans to the present. His recent works includes sculptures of Theodore Roosevelt’s horses and more than 40 sketches and oil paintings of Abraham Lincoln.

The maximum size of the entry is 36″ width and height, including frame. Sculpture is permitted, artist must provide pedestal or the artwork must be standalone. The entry fee for HAC Artist members is $25 for two entries and the non-member fee is $35 for two entries. Additional entries are $5 each. Artists may submit high resolution digital images formatted for PC (4 x 6 @ 300 dpi) or photographs of work created within the past four years. No previous images shown in the Main St. Petite Gallery will be accepted.

All entries must be received at the Huntington Arts Council, 213 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743 by October 5, 2012. Only digital images or prints will be accepted. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
