Couple Arrested on Drug Charges After Found Sleeping in Car with Child in Backseat in Huntington Station

Suffolk County Police today arrested a couple on drug and endangering the welfare of a child charges after they were found sleeping in a parked car with a 4-year-old boy in the backseat in Huntington Station.

Second Precinct Police Officer Jennifer Kosior found Bradley Pearl and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Shoppman, sleeping in a parked, running 2011 Hyundai Elantra in the parking lot of King Kullen, located at 275 West Jericho Turnpike, at 9:09 a.m. this morning with Schoppmann’s son in the backseat. Further investigation by Officer Kosior and Police Officer Theresa Wissert revealed the couple was under the influence of drugs.

Second Squad detectives charged Pearl with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child 15 Years Old or Younger, a felony under Leandra’s Law, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Schoppmann was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Pearl, 26, of 4 Shelly Court, Plainview, will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and Shoppman, 34, also of 4 Shelly Court, Plainview, will be held at the Fourth Precinct and both will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 10.

The child is in the care of a neighbor and Nassau County Child Protective Services was notified.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
