Volunteers from the Centerport Fire Department responded to assist an injured bicyclist who fell to the pavement on Route 25A just east of Washington Drive in Centerport on Saturday morning, August 4. The 60-year-old male patient suffered a severe head injury, despite wearing a helmet, and was airlifted to the Stony Brook University Medical Center by Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter that landed at the nearby Huntington Crescent Club.  About 30 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with two engines, a heavy rescue truck, ambulance and fire police, under the command of Chief Andrew Stevenson.
