Assemblyman Andrew Raia Issues Statement on Recent Revenue Update

Andrew Raia

“Recently, Comptroller DiNapoli came out with a report explaining that we are currently running $164 million ahead of projected revenue collections for the 2011-12 Fiscal Year. If these numbers hold, I believe that these funds should be used for state programs such as Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) and Early Childhood Intervention.

“In the 2011-12 New York State Budget, $36 million was cut from EPIC and $5.5 million was cut from the Early Childhood Intervention program. Programs such as EPIC are critical to providing our seniors with additional benefits, while Early Childhood Intervention programs provide additional education during a child’s formative years.

“I am remaining cautiously optimistic about the revenue forecast for our state. However, if additional funds are available, I will work hard to promote these important state programs.”
