Suffolk County Police Department Pharmacy Safety Initiative

In response to the growing issue concerning pharmacy crimes, prescription drug abuse and diversion, the Suffolk County Police Department will host a free pharmacist training session provided by Purdue Pharma’s Law Enforcement and Liaison Education (LELE) unit on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at   Suffolk County Police Academy / Suffolk County Community College, Lecture Hall, Sports, Health and Education Building, 502 Wicks Road, Brentwood, NY 11717.

The training will focus on educating pharmacy employees to help decrease robberies, illegal drug use and abuse. The topics that will be covered in the two and a half hour session are: Lawful Prescribing and Prevention of Diversion; Abuse and Diversion of Controlled Substances; Pharmacy Safety and Security; and Pharmacy Scams.

The training is one component of the Pharmacy Safety Initiative announced by Suffolk County Police Commissioner Edward Webber last month. The initiative was launched to help protect members of our community and pharmacy personnel against potential robberies.

In attendance will be Chief of Department James Burke, Police Officer James Cerone (registered pharmacist who formerly taught pharmacology), and representatives from Purdue Pharma L.P.
