Conference about plans to combat gang violence in Suffolk County to be held tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Hugh, Huntington Station.
The Police Department’s Gang Unit has decentralized, which means it is putting more cops in local precincts to address gang-related activity. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Acting Police Commissioner Edward Webber will announce plans to combat the issue of gang activity in Suffolk County at a press conference in Huntington Station tomorrow, January 24, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Hugh of Lincoln Parking Lot (Southeast Corner), which is located at 1650 New York Avenue, Huntington Station..
Recently, members of the Suffolk County Police Department’s gang unit were reassigned to the seven precincts throughout Suffolk County in an effort to improve efficiency. The unit, formally called the Patrol Special Operations Team (PSOT), was responsible for focusing on gang “hot spots” where gang violence was prevalent, such as Huntington Station and Brentwood. By decentralizing this unit, the officers will now bring their intelligence to the precinct level, sharing their knowledge with fellow officers, fostering familiarity with the communities served and adding more flexibility to staffing. The move involved the transfer of seven supervisors and 32 police officers.

How many times have the Huntington station crime problems been signaled out by the County Gov. and police and then nothing happens? How about the TOH tearing down the illegal rental homes this time? This has been another No Action item!
You are absolutely correct. The TOH needs to go after all the illegal housing, start with PIUS and all his illegal housing that allows Sec 8 to live in this houses which he collects millions of tax payers money and then the rest of the slumlords. They made this town the way it is now and the town allowed it, what a shame. So you get a few gangs off the street but new ones will move. It’s a revolving cycle.
The gangs will always be prevalent as long as they have a place to hang their hats and be welcome. I put most of the blame on the slumlords, but the charities are fuleing them too. I see charities pull up during the day donating food and baby clothes and then at all hours of the night I see the young adults fighting in the streets and the expensive cars pulling up dealing their drugs or whatever. They know how to play the system.
What gangs? According to Xavier Palacios, there is zero gang activity and we should reopen Jack Abrahms. He stated this at a board of ed. meeting, not too long ago. Is’nt he the head of the Huntington Station Latin Quarter? He would never lie about such things, so why waste anymore time with anti-gang, task force, nonsense. The Station is clean.
Ironic. Dissolve the Anti Gang Unit so we can stop gangs……..
I am anxious to hear how they will be dispersed, but by my math 2nd Pct should be getting at least 4 more officers and a Supervisor. That means not even 1 new officer per shift (21 shifts per week/5 shift per officer), and another desk jockey for 24% of the week.
Sounds like the Federal budget cuts, a drop in the bucket. At least we get a photo op:>)
sounds great, start by aresting BIG FRANK
I say, let the Town Supervisor and his board spend a day and night at the intersection of Depot Road and Pulaski Road. Watch what goes on there then call the Second Precinct for some back up and then travel down the road a bit to Tower Street. Grandstand there for a few hours, dodging bullets, and then go back to Town Hall and write a report of everything they witnessed during their day!!
Mr Pius is sooooo deep into the pockets of the Town Board that they turn their heads to what he is doing! Funny isnt it…. we know EXACTLY what he is doing! But for some reason, they dont see it! Hmm, I wonder what that rea$on could be?
Section 8 homes need to be limited to 1 per 1/8- 1/4 mile that would help prevent the formation of gangs.
Section 8 houses do not exist some areas of town. Guess why ?
Frank Petrone has already destroyed the town’s zoning for his real estate buddies.
He personally made Pius a multi-millionaire and a few others.
