The Heckscher Museum of Art and Cinema Arts Centre Announce Long Island Biennial 2012

Call for entries now through December 31, 2011

The Heckscher Museum of Art and the Cinema Arts Centre are pleased to announce that they are accepting entries for the Long Island Biennial 2012.  Professional artists, age 18 years or older, who live in Nassau or Suffolk Counties may submit entries for this juried exhibition until December 31, 2011.  The Long Island Biennial will be on view in The Heckscher Museum of Art from April 28 through August 12, 2012, with film screenings held at the Cinema Arts Centre.

“Long Island has a rich artistic tradition dating back more than a hundred years,” said Museum Curator Lisa Chalif. “Inaugurated in 2010, the Long Island Biennial offers contemporary artists an opportunity to show their work to a broad public, deepening the connections among artists and between artists and the communities where they live.  At the same time, the Long Island Biennial continues the Museum’s long tradition of providing cultural experiences that enrich the lives of all who live on and visit Long Island.”

Visual art entries submitted to The Heckscher Museum will be juried by Renato Danese, Danese Gallery, New York; Franklin Perrell, Executive Director, Roslyn Landmark Society and former Chief Curator, Nassau County Museum of Art; and Richard Vaux, Artist and Professor Emeritus, Department of Art and Art History, Adelphi University. Jurors will select works for exhibition according to their quality, creativity, and professionalism.  Accepted media include paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, and mixed media. The Museum will display all submitted entries on its Long Island Biennial Gallery Website.  The guidelines and application for submitting works to The Heckscher Museum for the Long Island Biennial 2012 are available on The Heckscher Museum Website at www.heckscher.org.

Cinema Arts Centre will accept, jury, and screen video and film entries for the Long Island Biennial 2012.  Information about video or film entries is available on the Cinema Arts Centre website at www.cinemaartscentre.org.
