The Melville Fire Department responded to a raging house fire on Raines Street in Melville, Saturday afternoon, August 13, at about 12:30 p.m. Approximately 80 firefighters from the Melville, Dix Hills, and Huntington Manor FD’s battled the blaze using eight trucks. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, with firefighters working at the scene for three hours led by Melville Fire Chief Robert Warren. The home was extensively damaged by the fire, which also damaged a vintage 1957 Ford Thunderbird parked in the attached garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Melville and Huntington Town Fire Marshals, and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad. The residents were not home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported. An engine and ambulance from the Plainview and East Farmingdale FD’s provided standby coverage for Melville during the alarm.
