CONTE PROMOTES MEN’S HEALTH WEEK

A two-time kidney transplant recipient and cancer survivor, Assemblyman Jim Conte (R,C,I,WF-Huntington Station) has signed on to a resolution marking the week of June 13 through 19, 2011, as “Men’s Health Week” in New York. Men’s Health Week was established at the national level by Congress in 1994 to encourage men and their families to educate themselves about issues involving men’s health.

Assemblyman Conte noted that men must take a more active role in monitoring their physical health and emphasized the importance of increasing education and early detection for men’s health during Men’s Health Week. For a full list of checkups and screenings for men ages 20 and up, residents can go online to www.menshealthnetwork.org.

“By marking this week in June as Men’s Health Week, I hope that men and their families will take the opportunity to educate themselves on health issues specific to men and the importance of regular medical checkups throughout life as a preventative measure,” said Conte. “Medical screening helped to save my life. By bringing awareness to men’s health issues, we can help save the lives of New York’s husbands, brothers, sons and fathers.”
