Two Former Suffolk County Legislators Endorse Doc Spencer

Former Suffolk County Legislator Jim Gaughran (l) with Doc Spencer

The VILLAGE TATTLER has recently heard of  two very important endorsements of Dr. William Spencer, Democratic nominee for Suffolk’s 18th legislative district.

I am very pleased to endorse Dr. William Spencer for Suffolk County Legislature for the 18th District. We have been fortunate to have Jon Cooper as our Legislator fighting for us these past 12 years. Now that Jon cannot continue due to term limits it is important that we elect someone who will continue to stand up for us.

I believe that in these difficult financial times for County government we need a legislator who will be both innovative and independent. Doc Spencer will bring that type of leadership to the Legislature. He is a proven community leader who will fight to protect our environment, improve police protection and keep spending and taxes down.” – James Gaughran, SCWA Chairman.

“Dr. Spencer has the qualifications we need in our Suffolk County Legislator. He has a keen intelligence, sound knowledge of the issues important to us and a balanced perspective. He has proven he has the initiative we have come to expect in our County legislator. Dr. Spencer is my choice to follow Jon Cooper on the Suffolk County Legislature. My vote is for Dr. Spencer.” Jane Devine, SCWA Board member.

Jane Devine represented the former 17th Legislative District from 1978-1987.  For a portion of that time, Devine served as the first female leader of the minority caucus. Her term as SCWA Board member expires in June 2012. James Gaughran was an elected member of the Suffolk County Legislature, representing the 17th District from 1988 to 1993. From 1984 to 1987 he was an elected member of the Huntington Town Board.  Today, he serves as the Chairman of the Suffolk County Water Authority.  His term as SCWA board member ends in March 2013.
