The Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce hosted more than 120 Chamber members, local residents and business owners at its Annual Networking Meeting at Coindre Hall in Huntington on Thursday, May 12. The event was highlighted by the “State of the Chamber” address given by Chamber Board Member Michael Agnes, of Wells Fargo. The address focused on the Chamber’s vision to maintain economic strength, expand opportunities and continue to grow local business and industry within our community.

Agnes also announced a series of Chamber initiatives including the Huntington Chamber Hometown Business Awards and Huntington Chamber Hometown Businessperson Awards – in conjunction with National Small Business Week, a program the United States’ President has taken part in every year since 1963 to recognize the contributions of small business to the economic well-being of America. Through this venture, the Chamber will recognize local businesses and one businessperson who makes a significant difference in the community, supports the Buy Local concept in a unique way, and demonstrates philanthropic efforts for a local cause which in turn makes our community a better place to live.

“We are launching a series of initiatives, as part of National Small Business Week, to support and honor local companies and businesses within the Huntington Township so they can continue to stimulate business, drive innovation, and support our community,” Agnes said. “By supporting local business on a grassroots level, we can enable the Huntington community to contribute to national grassroots local business efforts. The goal of the initiatives is to build a strong foundation for our local business to thrive.”

Agnes said that programs like these are designed to offer value for membership and enable the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce to remain consistent with its mission of supporting local business through advocacy, education, networking and business development for its members.

“Our chamber members are committed to doing business with each other. Initiatives like this will help them make the most of their Chamber membership and result in further growth of our Chamber,” stated Bob Bontempi, Chamber Chairman. “Our ultimate goal is that when other communities look at Huntington, they will consider our Chamber a model for success.”

The event’s keynote speaker Robert Basso, who is co-owner of Advantage Payroll Services and founder of, led an exciting and effective presentation titled “Building Your Business: Effective Tools and Resources for Successful Business Networking & Relationships.” During the keynote presentation, Basso offered information on building a personal brand and making the right connections in the marketplace.

Agnes concluded by saying, “My hope is when we get together next year, you will say that together, we took great leaps to accomplish our dreams, achieve economic prosperity for all our businesses and that we are able to celebrate our successes.”
