Dix Hills Fire Department Responds to Serious Northern State Crash

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to an early morning Easter Sunday crash on the Northern State Parkway, between Deer Park Avenue and Commack Road, after an eastbound Honda Accord ran off the road and struck several trees in the woods.  Dix Hills Fire Department volunteers responded to the crash shortly before 6 a.m. with about 25 firefighters and EMS personnel, and three heavy rescue trucks, two ambulances, first responder and paramedic units, under the command of Chief Richard Granahan. The male driver was pinned in the wreckage, and firefighters used heavy rescue extrication tools (“Jaws of Life”) to remove the two driver’s side doors and the B-post of the car in order to free the patient in a ten-minute rescue operation. The patient suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was transported to the Stony Brook University Medical Center by Dix Hills Rescue Squad ambulance.
