Huntington Manor Fire Department, EMS Respond to Jericho Turnpike Crash

Emergency personnel from the Huntington Manor Fire Department and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad responded to an accident involving a Ford Explorer crashing on top of a Honda sedan.  The crash occurred on East Jericho Turnpike west of Melville Road in Huntington Station on Friday afternoon, March 4. One victim was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, and two others were transported by ambulance to Huntington Hospital.  Under the command of Huntington Manor Fire Chief Gary Hatton, about 45 firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with two heavy rescue trucks, three engines, three ambulances and a first responder.  Firefighters arrived to find an injured man lying on the ground next to the wreckage, and hooked up a cable from the rescue truck to the SUV to stabilize and prevent it from falling on to the patient until he was removed by rescuers.  Units also responded to the Walt Whitman Mall parking lot, to secure the landing zone for the Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter that transported the seriously injured patient.
