Firefighters Battle Christmas Blaze in East Northport

Christmas morning blaze

The East Northport Fire Department responded to a blazing house fire early Saturday, Christmas Day morning on 6th Avenue.  The occupants safely escaped the fire in the three-story home.  Forty-two East Northport firefighters responded to the 5:18 a.m. alarm with five pieces of apparatus, led by Assistant Chiefs Mike Tarantino and Joe Ervin.

Mutual aid was requested at the scene for two additional engines from the Commack and Greenlawn FD’s, and an ambulance from the Centerport FD.  The Northport and Kings Park FD’s provided standby fire and ambulance coverage for East Northport during the alarm.  Firefighters brought the fire under control within an hour, and were on the scene for over two hours.  The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.

**Be safe and please make an effort to dig out any fire hydrants that are on or near your property.  The fire departments don’t have the manpower to do it and it takes precious minutes off their response if they have to go hunting for one in the middle of the night.
