The Town of Huntington issued this release:

Councilwoman Susan A. Berland was on hand to congratulate Victoria “Sunshine” Plumitallo on the success of her second annual toy drive at the Dix Hills Fire Department Saturday morning.  Members of the Dix Hills Fire Department and volunteers transformed the firehouse into a one-stop department store and gift-wrapping center where presents were given to over 150 children.

Clothes and toys were received all over the Town of Huntington, where donation boxes were set up at various fire departments.  Before Saturday’s toy drive, the Plumitallo family was able to provide clothing and toys to several charities, including St. Patrick’s Outreach in Huntington and the Light One’s Heart Foundation in Brentwood.

With the help of the PRONTO Outreach facility in Brentwood, Sunshine and her parents Mike and Hope, bussed in visitors to the toy drive, where upon arrival they enjoyed a breakfast of cakes and coffee.  As they entered the toy drive, visitors were assigned a personal shopper who brought them through aisles of donated toys and clothing and assisted them in choosing the right presents for their children.  Thanks to Sunshine and her toy drive, over 150 children will receive presents for the holidays this year.

“Sunshine Plumitallo is an incredible young girl with a big heart,” commented Councilwoman Berland.  “Her toy drive is a unique way to bring different members of the community together in the name of charity.  She saw a need in the community and acted on it immediately.  I would like to thank Sunshine, her parents Mike and Hope, the Dix Hills Fire Department and all of the volunteers who helped make the Sunshine’s Annual Toy Drive a huge success.”
