Bruce Richard, Huntington’s Director of Public Safety is Retiring

Town Hall confirmed today that Bruce Richard is among the estimated 38 employees that the town expects to take advantage of NY State’s retirement incentive program.  The town also confirmed that the position will not be left vacant and that plans are in place to begin running ads soliciting candidates for the job as soon as this weekend.

The new Director of Public Safety should expect to be busy.  Huntington Station saw one of the most violent summers in its history including multiple shootings and murders, which lead to the closing of Jack Abrams School.  The day labor site was recently closed leading to day laborers congregating on the streets surrounding the train station looking for work.  Code enforcement has been bandied about by the town for a decade, yet as the Village Tattler has reported, all indications point to a mushrooming illegal housing problem in Huntington Station and with it violent crime, drugs, prostitution and the population of illegal aliens.  Maybe Rudy Giuliani is looking for a gig in the ‘burbs?

    In place to begin?!!
I was told they were down to about 4 people. I wanted to have the community have some input, told not necessary, because the people they are / have interview all have law enforcement backgrounds.
Something is out of kilter here, Ya think!
And for info the Public Safety Department s/b under the Town Attorneys office as a lot of violations need to be handled in court and should not be off by themselves. It was this why and at some point the town board changed this, this is a mistake and needs to be returned to this way if we are going to get Huntington cleaned up!

  • What a mess

All he ever did was give out parking tickets at CSH train station. Glad to see him go. Hope we can get someone to do some real work.
