Deer Park Man Arrested for Four Commercial Burglaries that Occurred in Deer Park this Month.

While on patrol, First Precinct Police Officer Matthew Colonna observed a man carrying a pry bar near a business on Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park on November 28. When the suspect noticed the officer, he fled, but was apprehended by Police Officer Charles Ebert a short time later at 12:30 a.m. on Bay Shore Road in Deer Park. Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, Anthony Malatesta was charged with four counts of Burglary 3rd Degree.

Malatesta broke into and took money from the following businesses:

*        Venezia Deli, 472 Grand Blvd., Deer Park

*        H&R De Paris Boutique, 1827A Deer Park Ave. , Deer Park

*        Chopsticks, 1986 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park

*        Pizza Boss Pizza and Pasta, 476 Grand Blvd., Deer Park

Malatesta, 51, of Deer Park, was also charged with Possession of Burglar Tools, Criminal Trespass and Resisting Arrest. Detectives are investigating if Malatesta is connected to similar commercial burglaries in the First and Third Precincts. Malatesta was held overnight for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
