Huntington Manor Fire Department Battles House Fire

Firefighters from the Huntington Manor Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire at 3 Cardiff Court in South Huntington at 2:44 p.m. Saturday, October 30.  Under the command of First Assistant Chief Gary Hatton, 50 firefighters responded with three engines, two heavy rescue trucks, a ladder truck, and fire police.  Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the blaze, and had the fire under control within 20 minutes.  The Melville Fire Department assisted with a Rapid Intervention Team, with the Greenlawn Fire Department providing standby coverage at Huntington Manor’s fire headquarters.  The Huntington Community First Aid Squad stood by at the scene for EMS support.  Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Heavy fire damage was reported to the left side of the home with smoke damage throughout the house.  The blaze apparently started when embers from an outdoor fire pit ignited the vinyl siding and extended up the side of the house into the attic.  The fire appears to be accidental in origin, but is under investigation by the Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.
