Cold Spring Harbor Crash Caused by Drugs

Cops arrest man for driving while impaired

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Hicksville man for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs following a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman today. George Filippone Jr. was driving a 2006 Subaru eastbound on Jericho Turnpike in Cold Spring Harbor, when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2008 Ford van head-on at 1 p.m., in front of 864 JerichoTurnpike.

The driver of the van, Bruce Lesser, 53, of 285 Doris Ave., Franklin Square, and Filippone Jr., 39, of 12 Max Ave., Hicksville, were transported to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries.

Carolyn Greenberg, 45, of 12 Candy Lane, Roslyn Heights, the only passenger in Filippone’s car, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center where she was admitted with several broken ribs and a broken sternum.

Second Squad detectives charged Filippone Jr. with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 28.
