Golf and Body Opens in Huntington

LGPA pro, Sandy Jaskol with Stephen Login and Tom Schiff, owners of Huntington’s new Golf and Body

…A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one – big hitter, the Lama – long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga-lagunga…

…This crowd has gone deadly silent, a Cinderella story outta nowhere. Huntington local Tom Schiff and partner Steven Login have hit a hole in one with the grand opening this Saturday of Golf and Body. Well, we’ve been waiting for this haven’t we?  This whole inspiration for Golf and Body came about when local Tom Schiff couldn’t play his beloved game of golf anymore due to back pain.  He started working with Steven Login who is a physical therapist and exercise physiologist who got him back in shape and able to play 70 rounds of golf last year.

When Tom would get together with Steven for his rehabilitation he would kvetch about not being able to play golf over the winter so that when spring came he’d have to get back in golf shape all over again.  This is probably one of the reasons he kept getting injured. Together they formed a plan to open a place where people could pop in and play a simulated game  with PGA and LPGA professionals on staff for lessons. Stephen has two physical therapy rooms and an exercise room focusing on toning the specific muscles used for golf.  Tom is hoping that teens with an interest in golf will come in to shoot some holes on cold winter nights rather than feed their Starbucks addiction or settle into couch potatodom.
